Tuberculosis Clinical Intensive

For physicians and other licensed medical professionals who diagnose and treat tuberculosis. The course covers:
- epidemiology of tuberculosis (TB)
- diagnosis, management, and treatment of TB
- transmission and pathogenesis
- TB and HIV coinfection
- TB targeted testing and laboratory testing
- pediatric TB
- treatment of latent TB infection
- multiple drug resistance
- legal and ethical issues in TB control
- TB radiology
Course objectives (partial list):
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- prioritize contacts by transmission risk from the index case
- identify key populations at risk for TB infection and TB disease based on current epidemiology
- appropriately utilize rapid identification of drug susceptibility methods for TB
- apply the general principles of TB treatment
- relate the goals of anti-TB chemotherapy to clinical outcomes
- describe why the treatment of tuberculosis and HIV co-infection differs from standard TB therapy
- identify common radiographic manifestations of pulmonary TB
- explain the impact of HIV on TB epidemiology, screening, treatment, and prevention
Course format:
Includes lecture, discussion, and case presentations. Individuals must participate in all three days of the course. (No prorated units available)
