Target Audience: This training is intended for nurses and other licensed medical care providers who provide TB case management of patients with active or latent tuberculosis within the public health setting.

Training Objectives (partial list):
By the end of the training, participants will be able to:

  • List basic epidemiology tools for TB case management
  • List the three steps of laboratory examination necessary for adequate TB case management
  • List four basic principles for the medical management of TB cases
  • List the primary components of the TB case management model
  • Identify and prioritize the objectives of TB case management
  • Identify populations at high risk for infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis
  • Name and apply the essential steps and timelines in a contact investigation
  • List the general principles of MDR TB treatment
  • Identify four techniques to improve communication during a TB interview
  • Name three approaches for providing culturally competent TB care
  • Identify cultural, social and economic factors that block access to TB care

Training Format:
Includes lecture, discussion and case presentations.

The Curry International Tuberculosis Center is approved as a provider of continuing education by the California State Board of Registered Nurses, Provider Number CEP 12308. This training is approved for 23.75 continuing education hours. Board requirements prevent us from offering CE credit to people who arrive more than 15 minutes after the start of the training, or leave the training early. Therefore, partial credit will not be awarded.

The Curry International Tuberculosis Center is designated as a Regional Tuberculosis Training and Medical Consultation Center (RTMCC) via a funded cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Curry International Tuberculosis Center prioritizes learners from the western region of the United States which consists of thirteen jurisdictions: Alaska, California (including Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco), Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and the U.S. Pacific Island Territories.
