About Us

A Model of Excellence

The Curry International Tuberculosis Center (CITC) creates, enhances and disseminates state-of-the-art resources and models of excellence and performs research to control and eliminate tuberculosis in the United States and internationally. Committed to the belief that everyone deserves the highest quality of care in a manner consistent with his or her culture, values and language, we develop and deliver highly versatile, culturally appropriate trainings and educational products, and provide technical assistance.

A Pioneering Spirit

Since CITC's opening in 1994, we have remained true to the pioneering tradition of Francis J. Curry, MD. The Center is recognized as a leader in developing innovations in tuberculosis control and education and consistently seeks new perspectives and approaches for TB training and education.

TB Center of Excellence (COE) for Training, Education, and Medical Consultation

CITC is designated as a Tuberculosis Center of Excellence for Training, Education and Medical Consultation (TB COE) through a funded cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Our TB COE serves the Western Region.

Addressing TB's Changing Reality

While the number of tuberculosis cases in the U.S. is lower today than it has been for two decades, the epidemiology of the disease differs radically from that of the past. Today, people with tuberculosis are likely to be poor, urban, HIV-infected, homeless and, increasingly, foreign born. Thanks to our close relationship with organizations working directly with at-risk individuals and communities, particularly the San Francisco Tuberculosis Control Program, CITC staff are able to understand changes in the field and to create learning opportunities that meet practitioners' day-to-day needs.

Carefully Crafted Design

One of the attributes that makes CITC's work so effective is our insistence on designing training, products and services based on the needs and experiences of our audiences. Always starting with a needs assessment, we build our offerings around clearly defined objectives and interventions and revise as needed from continuous evaluation.

The Power of Information

With so many demands on time and resources, it isn't always easy to stay current. Whatever your role in working with tuberculosis — healthcare provider, infection control practitioner, facility administrator or tuberculosis control program staff — CITC has a wide array of learning opportunities to assist you.
