More Than Meets the Eye: Understanding Ocular Tuberculosis

Description: This training will provide public health clinicians with a focused overview of ocular tuberculosis, a rare but severe manifestation of TB. Participants will gain skills in diagnosing and managing ocular TB using evidence-based approaches, while also learning to recognize treatment-related complications that may impact vision. The training will emphasize the critical role of clinical and public health nursing case management in ensuring treatment adherence, monitoring for adverse effects, and supporting patients throughout their care journey. Strategies for preventing transmission, coordinating care across disciplines, and improving outcomes for both patients and communities will also be highlighted. This webinar is part of a collaborative Nurse Education Series. The 4 Tuberculosis Centers of Excellence for Training, Education, and Medical Consultation (TB COEs) and Heartland National TB Center (HNTC) have partnered with the National Tuberculosis Nursing Coalition (NTNC) to offer a tuberculosis nurse case conference series.

Target Audience: This webinar is intended for public health nurses, nurse case managers, and other healthcare personnel to promote TB care for patients. This training opportunity is available to a national audience.

Credit: This training is approved for up to 1.25 continuing education hours (see below). Certificates will be available within 8-10 weeks. 

Cost: There is no fee for this training

Objectives:

By the end of the training, participants will be able to:

  • diagnose ocular tuberculosis by assessing immunologic, radiologic, and clinical findings.
  • implement and monitor treatment using evidence-based protocols while addressing vision-related risks and complications.
  • enhance care and prevention through interprofessional collaboration and strategies that protect patients and the community.

Training Format: Virtual training includes didactic, case study, and Q&A/discussion.

The Curry International Tuberculosis Center is approved as a provider of continuing education by the California State Board of Registered Nurses, Provider Number CEP 12308. This training is approved for up to 1.25 continuing education hours. Board requirements prevent us from offering CE credit to people who arrive more than 15 minutes after the start of the training, or leave the training early. Therefore, partial credit will not be awarded.

The Curry International Tuberculosis Center is designated as a Tuberculosis Center of Excellence for Training, Education, and Medical Consultation (TB COE) via a funded cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Curry International Tuberculosis Center prioritizes learners from the western region of the United States which consists of seventeen jurisdictions: Alaska, Arizona, California (including Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco), Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, and the U.S. Pacific Island Territories.
